As the 1930s unfolded, James Thompson's sons, James Jr. and Mark, joined the family business, propelling it to new heights. James Jr. took the reins in 1934, overseeing the monumental project of constructing Anglo American's headquarters at 44 Main Street, Johannesburg.

A Public Debut

The year 1951 marked a pivotal moment as James Thompson Ltd became a public company, listing on the JSE. This era saw significant growth, with Anglo American taking a modest shareholding, solidifying Grinaker's position in the industry.

Expanding Horizons

The 1960s witnessed expansive growth as Thompson formed a roads and earthworks company, expanding operations into Africa. In 1964, Grinaker was listed on the JSE as Grinaker Holdings, a testament to its rising influence.

Evolution
A Decade of Evolution

The late 1970s brought transformation. LTA formed MITEC, and Grinaker acquired Racal Electronics. The company underwent a strategic split into Grinaker Construction and Grinaker Electronics, laying the groundwork for specialization.

1990s
New Dawn
A New Era Dawns

The 1990s marked the acquisition of Fraser & Chalmers Mechanical & Piping by LTA. Grinaker, recognising the changing tide, divided its construction and electronics businesses, listing them separately on the JSE.

2000s
A New Chapter
An Unveiling of Aveng Grinaker-LTA

In 2000, a new chapter began as Aveng Grinaker-LTA Limited was established. The synergy of Aveng and Grinaker brought forth a powerhouse, setting the stage for a new era of construction excellence

The journey continued in 2019 as Aveng Grinaker-LTA Limited found a new home with the Laula Consortium. This transition marked a commitment to sustained growth, innovation, and a legacy that endures.
